Nerdapalooza was amazing

Last night, my proverbial gig cherry was popped (to steal a term from MisterB).

Nerdapalooza UK was awesome. The other acts were rocking, and all really nice guys and it was great to meet all of you, and in some cases, perform on stage with you (Things that Suck was a brilliant experience).

I think my favourite act was the CamPanulas. Co's performance could've gone AWOL due to technical glitches but he did his best and kept it up and it was great. He rocked. Well done Co :D

MisterB, Category, CombatDave, SuperPowerless and Amy Can Flyy you were all awesome too, and Oliver I look forward to hearing a spacey chiprock tune for me to sing to, thank you :D

I met so many lovely people last night who really made the evening for me, and you were all so nice. It was both a surprise and an honour for so many people to enjoy the music I played and thank you all for supporting me.

Also, thanks to everyone who bought a CD, you're all brilliant and I really hope you enjoy it. And it was really fun signing things too, and you helped me practice my new Dan++ signature :D

Basically, I just want to thank everyone at and involved in Nerdapalooza UK. It was a resounding success in my eyes, and I had a brilliant time. I really wish I had been able to stay longer for the little afterparty, but unfortunately timing wasn't great and I have a very busy day today. I hope you all had a great time and by the looks of MisterB's blogging you did!

And thanks also Delius, if you're reading this. Delius's sound dude is a cool cat and really was very helpful, I couldn't have been on stage without him :) sorry I never got your name :(

My lovely girlfriend Claire took lots of photos and videos of myself and other artists, so expect photos popping up at Facebook and here on MySpace. Oh, and videos, on Facebook first and then maybe if I can figure out the MySpace video thing! Hooray for videos!

Seriously though, I love you all and can't thank you enough. <3

Coultometer

As many of you may know, I'm a Twitter fanatic. Not as much as some, mind you.

Anyway, so I'm also a fan of Jonathan Coulton. As are my friends Z and Anthony.

One fine day on Twitter, Z worked he was 0.006 times as Nerd-famous as JoCo. Then, Anthony described this as being 0.006 Coultons. Then, with my incredible ability to take a great idea and rip it off, I made the Coultometer. It's a simple tool which compares your followers with JoCo's, and a long list of famous Twitter names now seem to be using it... Are you more Nerd-famous than them? Find out!

Bye bye, data.

So basically, due to the crazy law of sod, after finally getting Ubuntu and Windows to dual-boot properly on my lovely PC, my documents drive has become inaccessible by traditional methods.

I am, as I write this, renaming MP3s which I have recovered from the smouldering wreckage that is my Hard Disk, Big Bertha thanks to a program called testdisk which was somehow able to figure out a doc from a txt in that 500GB monstrosity.

Unfortunately, most of the MP3s seem to be messy in their taggage so I've all but given up there.

Next up is important financial shiznit which I left in txt format. This is such a disaster...

Anyway, the point is, I've lost all the master files for my music, and since they were mostly in WAV format and a bit of a mess in terms of file names anyway, it's kind of unlikely that I'll ever get them back, but I will try.

If anyone out in the Interwebs reading this wants to help me, I'm asking if you might be able to point me in the right direction for converting the lossless FLAC versions of my new album into their individual tracks (guitar, vocals, etc). I'd be extremely grateful.

It is a sad day indeed.

Anthony of GM4A and MisterB, nerdcore rapper and organiser of Nerdapalooza UK have started a podcast called Letters VS Numbers

From their MySpace page:

This week is our inaugaral podcast! Episode 001. That's right, all those zero's mean we plan on doing over one hundred podcasts someday! Anyway, this week's podcast is one and a half hours, although the planned goal is 1 hour for future shows. We also plan on busting out more songs more often.

Anyway, in this episode, we discuss Voodoo invoking rappers, scandals that will make you drop your tea cup in horror, Mister B's girl advice, and even why I hate Scott McCloud. Not to mention all that wonderful Nerd music that our podcast is built around!

Additions to the site

As you may have noticed, there are a few changes to the site that were put up today. First of all, all of Of FNARs and ZINGs is officially now for sale. It's no better quality than the free version but it's there anyway just in case. So, it means the store is working. When the new album is done, they'll be up there! I've decided a good pricing system is 50p for MP3s and 60p for lossless FLACs. That could change by the time the new album comes around, we'll see.

Also, I've added a reviews section since I have a review now! I totally encourage everyone who reads this to send me your reviews because I like to hear them. They might go up on the site! If you would like a review up though, please let me know how I might credit you - website, email address, GamerTag.. whatever :)

Anyway, have fun. I hope everyone is well. I am, and I'm going home on Sunday which means lots of recording is planned and I can't wait! Exciting!

Lots of love,

Fingers crossed!

Here's what I've done over the past couple of days:

Added a Vitals page, with some vital information and links regarding me and my music;

Added some extra stuff to the main page, such as the little "Latest Tweet" panel on the right (look down and to your right a bit, you will probably have to scroll) which displays my latest update on website Twitter

Added lots of icons from the lovely website FamFamFam to make the site more prettyful;

Decreased the size of the banner to make the site a lot more compact;

Generally made it more accessible for newbies and, hopefully, people with small screens.. and Internet Explorer users;

Hopefully, fixed the feed. If you're reading this via RSS, then I did. Yay!

Tomorrow is the big day by the way. Well, the day I play at Coffee Revolution in Sheffield at at open mic night (so not really a big day by most people's standards... but it is for me!). If you live in Sheffield, here is a link to the Last.fm event page. It would be great to see anyone there to come and see me, so if you pop by let me know you came because you read this post, you'd make my day.

Anyway, I need to get to work. University calls!

Thanks for reading and your continuous support ^_^

Lots of love, Dan

Fixin' the feed!

I'm hoping that anyone reading this from an RSS feed reader is having very little difficulty and everything is displaying properly. For a while even I had trouble and it turns out that the ampersand character "&" was causing a lot of readers to either break or simply remove that character. Anyway, I've fixed it, I think. So this is kind of a test.

No other news to report at the moment I'm afraid (although recording is going alright at the moment), except that I'd like to pimp a community started by my raptastic friend Category which aims to bring together nerdy musicians from all over the UK. So check it out if you fit that description.

[POST-EXAM NEWS] Back to reality

Right, so exams are over for another few months, and my three-day celebrations (which were awesome, by the way) concluded this morning. As promised, work will resume on the new album (which still doesn't have a name but I'm getting there) as well as a few more things. Here's what I'll be getting up to in the next few weeks, in no particular order:

- Working on the Game Music 4 All Here Comes a New Challenger collaboration project with MisterB.
- Working on the new album, which I tentatively aim to complete by the end of March but currently that's not looking so good.
- Working on a project I rarely talk about here for the animation team I'm part of, Silver Ferret Productions. For anyone interested, I'll post a bulletin when it's complete, but the album will be almost certainly finished first.
- If I have time, also working on a submission for the GM4A 2nd Anniversary Compilation.

Things are going to get rather exciting soon, I hope. Lots going on and lots of look forward to, and I can't wait.

Sorry I've been so quiet recently, but I'm sure anyone who knows exams can relate. Thanks for your patience and your continued support, and don't forget if you're newish to my music there's tons to get you in the mood for the new album on this very website.

Big post over! Woot!

Lots of love from
Dan

P.S. Don't forget to download the collab I was in with Category and MisterB recently.
Update

I've been uber-busy recently what with University exams coming up, but I'm now back in Sheffield with all of my equipment including electric guitar, so in a couple of weeks, work will resume on the new album. I've been having tons of ideas recently so hopefully the album will only get bigger and bigger.

Not only that, I'm doing a couple of collaborations right now too, and they're going well!

Thank you everyone who downloaded The Right Man in the Wrong Place, it's certainly my most popular song yet and I'm especially pleased because it's my favourite. A Valve employee even told me he liked it, which is a real plus.

I've noticed downloads for the <a href="http://danplusadd.co.uk/tracks/Dan_Plus_Add-Of_FNARs_and_ZINGs.zip"first album going up as well, I hope you like it :) Surprisingly though, What is this Nerdery? and I want to own a coffee shop haven't been hugely affected by Right Man's popularity. So show them some love or they'll get all emo and cry because nobody loves them :D

Also I've been thinking of putting up a little forum here but I fear very few people would use it. I could just combine it with the forum for my other site I suppose. What do you think?

Anyway, back to revision. Cheers for all the support recently everybody! I'm very pleased people are (for the most part) liking what they hear. Thanks :)

P.s. well done everyone who found the easter egg on the site.

In honour of it's awesomeness, I've recorded a song I wrote about the Half-Life series and its mysterious, silent protagonist. If you're not familiar with it, you should be; unless exciting, modern shooters with excellent gameplay, an engaging story, brilliant graphics and a fantastic soundtrack aren't your sort of thing. The song is called "The Right Man in the Wrong Place", and it is going to be on the upcoming album. As always, you can download it for free.

Also, since I never did one, a quick wrap-up of Dan Plus Add's 2007 (music-wise): First, after becoming acquainted with a few members of the Nerdcore hiphop community, particularly in the UK, I recorded the song Naming Music Isn't Easy. I liked it! A bit cliche and typical but it's alright. Then, in an apparent fit of rage I decided that You're dumb. Shortly after I cheered up when I won a songfight.org competition with And Counting, and almost immediately after announced to the world that I want to own a coffee shop. Then with the aid of a friend, I asked the question, What is this Nerdery? And here we are. Thank you everyone who made 2007 a great year.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the latest track, I certainly enjoyed making it. Thank you Valve Corp. for making the game in the first place, it inspired me greatly!

Lots of love, Dan

P.S. I made it to Level 2 on TheSixtyOne. Thanks bumpers :D

TheSixtyOne - A Music Adventure

There's this new social music-sharing website which is a bit like Digg for music, except that when you "Bump" something, it costs you points, which can be earned in a number of different ways.

Anyway, by bumping something you give me a point, and when I get to 20 points I go to level 2, so it's kind of like an RPG, with experience points, in that sense. At level 2 I get to upload another song. And so on and so fourth. Anyway, what I want you to do for me, please, is to bump some of my songs at http://www.thesixtyone.com/fragsta/ please, and help the music spread.

And that's TheSixtyOne, a musically themed Digg RPG.

Thank you! =D

Love,

I've released a new song woo!

Download it here in high-quality 256kbps mp3 format, or check it out on my MySpace page. Also on Last.fm of course.

I hope you like it! It's very low-fi and uses my awesome new glockenspiel that I got from my sister.

The idea came from a good friend of mine called Adam who had the title on his MySpace page, so thank you Adam! This is an album track by the way. Enjoy!

News & stuff.

Hello Interwebs, I have news.

Righto. I'm planning a new EP... or Album. Basically, there are going to be a few songs on it in this order (I've BLANKED OUT the songs you don't know about yet ;-) )

1. ????
2. ????
3. Naming Music Isn't Easy
4. I want to Own a Coffee Shop
5. ????
6. And Counting
7. ????

If by the time I've finished the three songs which are ????'d out I have some more ideas for songs, I may turn it into a proper album. Otherwise it'll be an EP. I've chosen a name, I've made a cover. It's going to be ace.

Basically though, it's still going to be available online for free but I'm also going to have some way of buying (and being delivered) a proper CD copy of it with high-quality recordings and whatnot.

Also Naming Music, Coffee Shop and possibly And Counting will sound ever-so-slightly different.

Before I release this CD though, you will see one more random un-albumed track from me, at least. It'll be done by the 25th of January but probably way before. That's a hint towards what the song is about.

Seriously though. The new CD will sound good. Production value-wise. Well, better than Of FNARs and ZINGs, at least. Thanks to my sexy new equipment.

I hope everyone is enjoying the new year as much as I am.

Lots of love,

Happy New Year!

I hope everybody had a lovely New Years Eve and saw in 2008 as it deserved to be seen in. I rang in the new year with my family and my girlfriend at my Uncle's house, having a great time with glow sticks and sparklers and champagne (I had some red champagne!!)

2007 was a brilliant year for me, musically. A lot was achieved, I was inspired more times than one and I had a great time. Thanks to everyone who made 2007 the awesome year that it was, and here's to 2008 being even more awesome!
